Tell us about your background: Where did you get your start & what is your role at Artesyn today?

I started out as a data entry clerk, but opportunities came along and I had the chance to become an admin to the General Manager. When he was promoted, I was asked to help out in the purchasing department buying all the non-production items. Turns out I had a gift for it, so I was promoted to a production buyer. That’s when my career really took off. Ever since I have worked in a variety of industries: commercial, industrial, turnkey, finance, military, aerospace, and medical. I have also been both a sales and marketing manager. (Being on the other side of procurement definitely gave me an edge!)

At ARTeSYN I do a variety of things - handle all procurement, some cost accounting, inventory control, correct BOMs, work with Europe on global supply chain strategies, as well as taking care of the needs and wants of the team in the Simi office.

What do you like about working at Artesyn?

It allows me to go beyond my capacity to learn new things. Management is always pushing me out of my comfort zone. I also love our team! We have one of the best groups I have ever worked with. The way our company is structured keeps each location small so it feels like a family rather than a large global company.

 What would you recommend to other women thinking of entering the biotechnology field?

Be strong. Stand your ground. Don't be afraid to make suggestions. Communication is key. Period. If you want to be part of something that betters humanity this is the field to be in! I have found that of all the industries I have worked in, and I have been in a lot, women are more likely to advance in this field than any other.

What is the best piece of advice you ever received?

Everything is free. It all comes from the earth. The price you pay is the price the market will bear.
